Area of Service
Accumark offers services to engineers, designers, developers and state and federal agencies across Virginia, D.C., Maryland, North Carolina and the broader East Coast.
AccumarkA member of the National Underground Group’s family of service lines, Accumark is a leading provider of locating services for a complete Subsurface Utility Engineering field services solution. Accumark provides subsurface utility designation, mapping and locating services for municipalities, federal agencies, professional engineering firms and contractors. The company also provides specialized services at high-risk sites, utilizing a non-destructive method for locating subsurface targets prior to digging, trenching or conducting site assessments. With a safety-first focus, Accumark is recognized for outstanding customer service as well as accuracy and timeliness that lead to cost savings and damage prevention.
To protect against damaging existing utilities during subsurface installations or rehabilitation, SUE uses data accumulated from existing records, maps and comprehensive site investigations to identify the horizontal locations of existing infrastructure.
Our SUE process includes:
A critical step to initial design and civil engineering phases, subsurface utility designation and mapping uses data accumulated from existing records and maps, combined with an in-depth site investigation, to identify the horizontal locations of existing buried utilities and structures. We conduct a visual inspection of above-ground utility features such as manholes and valve boxes, coupled with the use of electronic utility locating equipment.
Findings from the site investigation are correlated with the often inexact data collected from records and maps to help determine the existence and approximate location of below-ground utilities. Identifying existing buried utilities and structures is essential to:
Our subsurface utility locating services offer the highest level of accuracy, deliver nondestructive exposure of underground objects at predetermined target points, serve as the preferred final step for high-congestion underground utility networks, and include visual inspection that provides valuable information about objects below ground.
In this critical step to final design and early construction phases, we vacuum excavate test holes to determine the exact horizontal and vertical location of existing utilities. Once below-ground objects are exposed, their characteristics are inspected and documented through photographs and data collection, including depth, type, size and condition.
GPR involves the nondestructive location of subsurface targets prior to digging, trenching or conducting site assessments. An excellent method for large sites or sensitive areas, GPR from Accumark prevents utility damage on construction sites, can be used in forensic investigations and can accommodate projects needing a quick turnaround. GPR is also successful in a variety of applications such as locating drain fields, USTs and non-metallic utilities (A/C, PVC water mains and terracotta pipelines).
